DENTAL PROBLEMS: DON’T LEAVE IT TOO LATE!

Yeoville Dentist’s head surgeon and owner Dr Ayesha Kadwa says patients are often resolving their dental issues too late, which results in more serious consequences.

At Yeoville Dentist, I’ve have been seeing an increasing number of patients who have sought dental treatment too late. So we decided to create a post to create awareness on when to see the dentist if you have dental pain.

Even slight dental pain means that you have to see a dentist. The slight pain is an indication that there is something wrong and there may be a disease process starting. 

The problem will not just go away! It will get worse. If we leave dental issues untreated we face the risk of further complications developing.

For example: You have slight pain when eating and drinking. So you avoid eating on that side and the pain subsides. As time goes on the tooth becomes more sensitive and painful. It worries you, but you still think it will go away. You use tooth drops from the pharmacy and take over-the-counter pain medication. It gets better for a while and suddenly one night you wake up with severe pain.

If you leave it, it might start swelling up and you may have severe, constant pain. By the time you get to the dentist, the damage to the tooth is extensive.

Treatment options are now limited, more time consuming and cost way more. You may be left with only one option, which is removing the tooth. This is something all dentists dislike doing as we hope to save every tooth… a lost tooth leaves a space in your mouth.

The point of this post is not to shame or judge anyone but to inform our patients whom we care about deeply to come in as soon as possible for dental treatment if you have a painful tooth.
